About a year ago today I started volunteering my time at the Daytona Beach Boy's and Girl's club as an art teacher through a fellowship I am apart of called The Mission Continues. The MC is a fellowship for Veterans like myself wanting to give back their time to the community for non profit. It took me about a year to get into that fellowship and was I ever glad that I got in because it opened up another door in my life that I certainly found joy in being apart of. These kids are wonderful, they light up my day every time I see them. They run to me and hug me when they see me, its hard for me being so emotional not to get teary eyed with joy. The last school year we did a lot of unique artistic things and I can not tell you how much of an impact it has been on their young lives. I even took it further and focused my senior thesis on these children. They were able to showcase their works at our Local Museum at the Southeast Museum of Photography, and for my thesis exhibition I was able to showcase their beautiful faces that I had been documenting through out our year together. I have been featured in a blog on the MC site. I am excited to start the new art classes in October!
